What you can do with a Meat Transport Vehicle licence
Get a Meat Transport Vehicle licence to transport meat or seafood products for sale for human consumption.
PrimeSafe issues this licence under the Meat Industry Act 1993.
What you can’t do with a Meat Transport Vehicle licence
You cannot:
- store meat products intended to be sold (get a Retail Butcher Shop or a Further Meat Processing Facility licence).
- sell meat products from a vehicle (get a Retail Butcher Shop or a Further Meat Processing Facility licence).
- store seafood products intended to be sold (get a Seafood Retailer or a Seafood Processing Facility licence).
- sell seafood products from a vehicle (get a Seafood Retailer or a Seafood Processing Facility licence).
You do not need a PrimeSafe licence to transport pet food.
PrimeSafe licence conditions require all meat transport vehicles to comply with relevant Australian Standards. For meat and seafood transportation this is section 25 of the Australian Standard for the Hygienic Production and Transportation of Meat and Meat Products for Human Consumption (AS 4696).

New Meat Transport Vehicles must be inspected before they can be licensed.
You will need to upload photos of your vehicle as part of your online application.
If you cannot provide photos you can get your vehicle inspected by a PrimeSafe approved auditor
You have 30 days to fix any defects if your vehicle fails the inspection. If you can’t fix the problems in 30 days we will cancel your new license application and you can apply again when your vehicle is ready.
Your vehicle won’t need an inspection if it has a refrigeration unit manufactured by a PrimeSafe accredited builder. Instead, send us a copy of the certificate of compliance from the accredited builder.

There is an annual fee to hold a licence that you pay each year in June.
You may have to pay a fine if you do not meet your licence conditions.
